What Appointer does

Appointer is a handwriting-capture app for Samsung S Pen devices. You write a short note, and the app recognizes it and turns it into a calendar event or a Home Assistant to-do item. It's built and maintained by a single independent developer for a small audience of S Pen owners, not a company.

Calendar access

Appointer requests calendar read and write permission to create, update, and delete events on the calendar you choose in Settings. This happens entirely on your device through Android's own calendar provider.

• Your calendar data is never sent to the developer or to any server the app controls.
• The app only touches events it created itself when you delete or retry a note.

Handwriting recognition

Your handwriting is recognized on-device using Google's ML Kit Digital Ink Recognition. The ink you write is never uploaded anywhere. The first time you use recognition, Android downloads a one-time recognition model (a few megabytes) from Google's servers — that download is the only network activity this feature causes.

Home Assistant integration (optional)

If you choose to connect Appointer to your own Home Assistant instance, you provide its address, a to-do list entity, and a long-lived access token you generate yourself.

• The token is encrypted on your device using Android's hardware-backed Keystore before it's stored, and never leaves the device in plain text.
• Requests go directly from your device to the Home Assistant host you configured — nowhere else.

Other permissions

Appointer requests a few Android permissions to make S Pen capture work reliably: notifications (to prompt capture when the pen is removed and the screen is locked), display-over-other-apps (to open the capture screen instantly when the pen is removed and the screen is already on), and background execution exemptions (so the listener keeps running). None of these involve sending data anywhere — they control what the app is allowed to show and when.

Data storage & retention

Your notes are stored locally in the app's own database on your device. Deleting a note in Appointer also removes the calendar event or to-do item it created, if any. Android's standard device backup may include this local app data as part of your phone's normal backup — the developer never has access to it.

Children's privacy

Appointer isn't directed at children and doesn't knowingly collect data from anyone under 13.
